Spectrum Training Offers 2 Types of Classes
FOUNDATIONS Class
If you already know how to load and fire a pistol, but don’t know all you’d like about how to shoot one effectively, this class is for you.
When I started training with top-level instructors, I was already “above average.” But I had NO IDEA how much I “didn’t know that I didn’t know.”
Pistol shooting has evolved dramatically over the past 10-20 years. You will be amazed at the marked improvements you can see from just refining your foundational skills.
This class covers:
- 3 Modes of Practice
- Stance
- Aiming & Sight Picture
- Trigger Press
- GRIP! GRIP! GRIP!
- Presenting onto Target
- Building a Proper & Consistent Grip during the Draw
- Drawing from the Holster
- Transitions
- 1-handed Shooting
To take this class, you need to know how to load mags and be comfortable shooting a pistol. Instruction in each foundational skill will be tailored to individual skill levels.
Foundations Classes run from 9a-5p.
Recommended ammo count: 500 rounds.
Cost: $100 (If 2 or more people sign up together – $80/each)
DRILLS & SKILLS Classes
Are you a good shot? How do you know? These are a series of classes based around common qualifications & drills. We’ll run the drill(s), then work on skills the drill tests. Then we’ll run the drill(s) again.
Air Marshal’s Qualification (Original) – Considered to be the hardest LEO qualification. The new version was made easier because they needed more Marshal’s after 9-11 and not enough people could pass. (That’s comforting!)
Tier 1 Concealed: Three Seven’s Drill – The only drill I know where you can win a challenge coin without going to an official class. Can you get a coin?
FBI Bullseye Qualification – Not the main FBI qual. This one uses B8 targets, so a big focus on accuracy. We’ll do Kyle Defoor’s B8-based “Hat Qual” too.
Modern Samurai Project Standards – Jedi’s 4 class drills include two classics (1 shot at 7 yards & Bill drill), along with a drill at 3 yards and another at 25 yards. Only 40+ people have earned his Black Belt patch.
Like the Foundations Class, these classes are open to anyone who knows how to load mags and is comfortable firing a pistol. BUT, realize, these are high-level drills. If you see that as a challenge – sign up! If that’s going to frustrate you – best to wait till later.
Drills & Skills Classes run from 9a-3p.
Recommended ammo count: 500 rounds.
Cost: $80 per class (If you pay for 3 or more – $70 each)
ABOUT STEVE VINSON OF SPECTRUM TRAINING
What qualifies me to teach these classes?
First, I have taken classes with many of the top level instructors:
* Scott Jedlinsky – Modern Samurai Project (Red Dot Instructor for the FBI Hostage Rescue Team)
>> I am an “ENDORSED INSTRUCTOR” by Modern Samurai Project
* Steve Fisher – Sentinel Concepts
* Bob Vogel – Vogel Dynamics (USPSA World Champion; Has instructed Delta Force, SEALs and Marine Raiders)
* Tim Herron – Tim Herron Shooting (USPSA Grand Master)
* Kyle Defoor – Defoor Performance Shooting (SEAL Team 6)
* James Yeager – Tactical Response
* John Johnson – Citizens Defense Research
* John Murphy – FPF Training
* Greg Ellifritz – Active Response Training (Tactical Medical class)
* Defensive Elements (Force on Force class)
In addition, I have learned from several other top instructors via video (e.g., Gabe White, J.J. Racaza, Rob Leatham, Mike Seeklander, Donovan Moore, Ben Stoeger, Ernest Langdon, Dave Spalding, John Lovell, Tom Castro, Mark Smith, Mason Lane, Ron Avery, Aaron Cowan and others).
Through this, I have become familiar with the common elements that all top trainers agree on. (There are a few!) And I also know the differences in their approaches. The best trainers will admit, their way is a way, the the way. Being familiar with so many different “ways” enables me to find the technique that works best for you.
Second, I’m a Teacher. It is my spiritual gift. Not everyone who can shoot can instruct. I have been teaching various subjects in various settings for 40 years. I know how to help people learn.
Third, I am a Shooter. I shoot – A LOT. Hundreds of rounds each month for my own practice. I also shoot 1-2 matches each month.
Reviews
Steve came and did a pistol course for about 8 men in our church. What a great time we had that day.
The course we selected was minimal class time, and much of our time spent on the range.
Steve was very willing to help adjust our grips, and give us some tips to help improve our marksmanship. He was also very patient and kind.
We will be having him back soon!
I highly recommend Steve to come and do a course, or two, for you.
My wife and I attended the Intro to Pistols class and we both loved it! The class was very informative and we both learned about basic gun safety as well as how to properly handle a firearm in all situations. The entire experience was fun and helpful at the same time and was a great activity for us to do as a couple. Steve is a great instructor and we would definitely choose him again for any firearm training!
We really enjoyed our training you gave us and I personally learned A LOT. Would recommend you to anyone interested in learning to shoot or just wanting to brush up on their skills.
Awesome private lesson! In a short period to time, I was able to significantly improve both my shooting speed and accuracy. Steve is kind, patient and extremely knowledgeable. I felt he customized his delivery of information to my level of understanding very well. I am looking forward to much more instruction.
I had a private lesson with Steve. He was able to give me tips on how to reduce my issue of anticipating my trigger pull, as well as how to tighten up my grouping when I shoot. He provided me information to use at the range, along with dry fire practice techniques to utilize at home.
